STUDY OF MULTIMETER
AIM - 1) To study construction of multimeter.
2) To study various application of multimeter.
INTRODUCTION –
Analog multimeter- Multimeter is a combination of a voltmeter, ohm meter and current meter. All parts contained in a single case. A same meter movement (EMMC) is used to measure all the three quantities. Multimeter is also known as V.O.M. ( Volt ohm Milliameter).
Various multimeter shunts and battery’s are all contains inside the case selection switch is provided on the front panels’ to select that particular function particular date for that function. In certain multimeter socket are used for selection, function and rang. A single deal with scale calibrated to read Volts, Ohm, Milliamperes with number of ranges for the quantity is generally used. Most multimeters are designed to measure D.C as well as A.C. quantities’.
In A.C. voltage measurement A.C Voltage is rectified by diode and converted in D.C.
NOTE –
MEASURING RESISTOR –
To avoid damage to the meter or to the devices under test disconnect circuit, power and discharge all the high voltage capacitors before measuring resistance.
The resistance measurement position 200Ω, 20KΩ, 200KΩ and 20MΩ. To the measure resistance connect meter as follows.
D.C. CURENT MEASURMENT –
1) Warning-
Never attempt and in circuit current measurement were the voltage between the terminal and ground is greater than 60v if the fuse burls out during the measurement the meter may be damage or the operator himself may be hertz. Uses proper terminal function and range for the measurement when the testing leads are connected to the current terminal. Do not parallel them across any circuit. The current measurement as four measurement position. On the rotary switch 2000πA, 20mA, 200mA, 10A,
TO MEASURED CURRENT TO THE FOLLOWING –
To measured D.C. voltage connected the meter as flows.
NOTE-
. PROCEDURE-
DIGITAL MULTIMETER-
Digital multimeter are three and half digits with tredy operation and highly reliable and health measuring instrument. The metal can be measure A.C. and D.C. voltage, diode, transmitter and quantity.
PROCEDURE-
D.C. voltage measurements the D.C. voltage range are 200mv, 2000mv.
1) Insert the red test lead into the voltage, Ohm, mA terminal the black test lead into the common terminal.
2) Set the rotary switch to an appropriate measurement in Ohm’s range.
3) Connected the test lead across with the object measured. The measured value shows on the display.
CONCLUSION-
We have learn measuring resistance by color and multimeter.
2) To study various application of multimeter.

Most multimeters are designed to measure D.C as well as A.C. quantities’.
In A.C. voltage measurement A.C Voltage is rectified by diode and converted in D.C.
- Set the rotary switch to an appropriate measurement position in voltage range.
- Break the current path to be tested & connect the red test lead to the positive terminal, & black test lead to the negative terminal in the circuit.
- Turn on power to the circuit. Measure values shown on the display.
NOTE –
- If the value of the current to be measured is unknown. Use the maximum measurement position (10A)
- And reduce the range step by step until a satisfactory reading is obtained

TO MEASURED CURRENT TO THE FOLLOWING –
- Turn of power to the circuit discharged all the high voltage capacitor .
- Insert the read taste lead into the voltage Ohm and mA all the 10A terminal and black test lead into the common terminal 20v, 200v, 500v
To measured D.C. voltage connected the meter as flows.
- Insert read test lead into the v Ω mA, terminal and blank test lead into the common terminal.
- Set the rotary switch to an appropriate. Position in voltage range.
- Connect the test lead across the object to be measured the measure shows on the display.
NOTE-
- If value of voltage to be measure is unknown to the maximum measurement position (Thousands volt) and reduce the range step by step until satisfactory reading is often.
- The L.C.D. display (indicated selected range) is over load.
- A tricky to selected a higher range a current reading and the measured.
- While measuring current shunt resistor is connected across diffraction coil and value of shunt according to range selected.
- While measuring voltage series multimeter for extend voltage range.
- While measuring resistance voltage is provided from multimeter to unknown resistance. In series current resistor or from Ohm still adjustment.
. PROCEDURE-
- Open the multimeter carefully.
- Observe construction of multimeter.
- Trace out the multimeter.
- Measured voltage current and resistance.
- Calculate F.S.D. (full scale Diffraction )
